Storehouse Full of Snares and Traps
The Ugandan Wildlife Authority (UWA) at Murchison Falls HQ has warehouses filled with snares and traps confiscated from poachers. These come in all shapes and forms, from wheel-traps (gin traps) to spiked wheels.
As a means of destroying them, the steel traps and snares are used as reinforcement in the foundations of new buildings.
These warehouses also store recovered spears, nets, and poached timber.
Poachers use middlemen on motorbikes called “boda bodas” to distribute the bushmeat in the various villages and towns.
When confronted by UWA rangers, these middlemen normally drop everything and run, and the meat and the motorbikes are confiscated.
