Changing Community Mindsets (5-minute Video)

The management of the Lugenda Foundation, based in the Lugenda Wildlife Reserve (LUWIRE) in the Niassa Special Reserve of Northern Mozambique, is exploring how to change community mindsets.

They want to address the issues that create barriers to community success in food security and livelihood options.

It is a fact that when an individual or community is living in survival mode, there is a neurophysiological impact.

So, the Foundation’s approach is not to force a program on the community, but to engage with them to understand their needs and how best to address them.

They have found over the years that a hybrid of commercial and philanthropic models gets the most effective results.

Through this, they can then bring in partners who share that ethos to support some of the community initiatives and the project work that they’re doing.
